Washington Square is a small 1.48 acre park that packs in many iconic historical Charleston elements! Gas lanterns, monuments, wrought iron fencing, brick pathways, large mossy oaks, and a cobblestone street name a few of the elements. You can also view more recent photos on our photo website.
The park borders a full block of Meeting Street, in between the intersections of Meeting Street and Broad Street, and Meeting Street and Chalmers Street. Chalmers is a cobblestone road.
The park is surrounded by wrought iron fencing. Which offers some privacy for a quiet elopement ceremony!
Natural gas lanterns surround the park. Not only are they historical, but a great for photos!

As with all of Charleston parks, it is open to the public. A few on lookers may wander through while you are having your elopement ceremony. However, there is less onlookers than at the popular parks of White Point Gardens or Waterfront Park.
The flowers around the Washington monument change seasonally. The azaleas bloom in the spring and fall.

We use this park as the starting point for the Capturing Charleston Elopement package. With this package, we meet at Washington Square, have the ceremony, and then wander the downtown area taking photos along the way.
There is a parking garage located across the street from Washington Square, making parking easy. There are public restrooms in the parking garage. At the corner of Meeting and Queen is the Mills House Inn. Also on Queen St there are several great restaurants: 82 Queens, Poogan's Porch, and Husk.
